Friends of the Key Largo Library Classes
The Friends of the Key Largo Library, with a grant from the ABC (Art Builds Community) from the Arts Council of the Florida Keys, is providing six art classes free to the public in the 2023-24 season. Each class in being taught by Art Guild of the Purple Isles (AGPI) members to fulfill part of its mission statement to develop a public awareness and appreciation of the visual arts throughout the community. The public may sign up each FREE class starting two weeks before the class via Facebook page for Key Largo Public Library, or by stopping in at the library.
Dates as follows:
Monica Bankowski – October 13 – 15 students
FUNdamentals of Drawing – Practice left-brain thinking and right-brain seeing, and how to apply concepts to draw anything! Supplies will go home with students to encourage drawing.
Gloria Avner – November 27 – 10 students
Ancient Art of Batik – Using ink, hot wax and watercolor on rice paper will be our lesson. You will be amazed at the ease and results as each student takes home two works of art.
Jacquline Campa – January 8 – 12 students
Island Soul Sisters – Fun and easy figures will be created using acrylic paint. Understanding the color wheel, mixing colors and the use of primary colors will be the skills used.
Carmen S. Kelley – January 26 – 15 students
Color the World – Colored pencils will be used to create your art. Beginner skills will include: learning to mix colors, techniques, creating texture and basic understanding of the color wheel.
Gisela LLorens – February 9 – 15 students
Brilliant Seascape – Soft pastel sticks will be used to create a simple practice picture. A second, larger, seascape will be created while learning to combine the intense pastel colors.
Diane Smith – February 23 – 20 students
Tropical Sunset – Water Color will be used to create a blended, colorful tropical sunset with the silhouettes of palm trees, figure and animals. Watercolor wash and basics along with stencils and composition skills will be part of this lesson.
